Fireflies in California

Written for the September 2012 Tea Room Firefly Challenge

Link watched Wes in the brush just off the gravel driveway.  When he came back to the porch the light had faded away.  Link stood up from the swing engulfing him in a hug, "What are you up to, babe?" he chuckled.

Wes shrugged.

They snuggled in silence until Link saw a flicker of light where Wes had been.  Then another and another.  Glancing at Wes he saw that goofy grin spread across his face.

“Fireflies,” Wes explained, “like when I was a kid.”

“Babe, we don’t have fireflies in northern California.”

“We do now, T-man,” Wes laughed, “Christmas lights.”
